At the Very Beginning
It all started with banal frustration. In 1987, John Knoll worked on the creation of some special effects for the “Star Wars” project and his brother Thomas worked on a paper about image processing. They were both disappointed by the new Apple Mac Plus that couldn’t display grayscale images. They both needed some softare for image processing. So they decided to unite their forces and try to create more complex and sophisticated software that will bring a million dollar profit in the future.
The result of Knoll brothers’ work was released in February 1990. High usability of the new software was combined with talented marketing strategy. It was based on the principle that Photoshop is a very simple tool for everybody. It means that with the help of Photoshop you can reach the same result as with the help of professional software which costs thousands of dollars. An interesting detail – all versions of Photoshop have codenames. Such as Fast Eddy, Tiger Mountain, Merlin, Venus in Furs, Space Monkey, White Rabbit or even Big Electric Cat. The evolution of Photoshop is still ongoing. And today we are pleased to meet a new young member of the Photoshop family – Photoshop CS6.
