Convert DOC/DOCX files to PDF documents with novaPDF
Convert Word to PDF
This tutorial shows how to convert a Microsoft® Office Word document to a PDF using a virtual PDF printer driver such as novaPDF. Once installed, novaPDF lets you create PDF files from any Windows application that supports printing, thus to convert an Word document to a PDF you need to download and install novaPDF first.
Once novaPDF is installed you can convert your Word documents into PDF files – by simply choosing novaPDF as a printer and clicking the Print button. Having your Word document in PDF format is an advantage if you want to send it to other users (the persons receiving it do not need in this case Word installed) or to print it.

novaPDF is installed as a virtual printer so you can create PDF files simply by printing to it.
To create PDF files from Microsoft Word 2007 documents (doc to pdf):
- Open the Word document that you want to convert to PDF file
- Go to Office Button-> Print(or press Ctrl+P and select novaPDF from the Printers combo-box
- Before creating the PDF file you can adjust novaPDF’s settings to customize the page from the Properties button
- Click on Ok and choose a location where you want the PDF file saved (auto-save can be configured too by accessing the Properties->Save tab of the novaPDF Printer)
To create PDF files from Microsoft Word documents (2003 or previous versions):
- Open the Word document that you want to convert to PDF file
- Go to File->Print and select novaPDF from the Printers combo-box
- Click on Ok and choose a location where you want the PDF file saved (auto-save can be configured too by accessing the Properties->Save tab of the novaPDF Printer)
Starting with version 6, novaPDF includes a PDF merging (combining) option, so if you want to add new Microsoft Word documents in an existing PDF file you can use novaPDF's own merge option. This will let you print a Word document to PDF and after that print other documents to the same pdf (before, after or as background/foreground for the existing PDF). Even better, you can merge content with an existing PDF from other programs too (so for instance if you want to print to the same PDF a Word document, a PowerPoint presentation, an Excel worksheet and a Publisher file, you can use novaPDF's merge/combine/overlay option to do so). You can read more about the PDF merging option here: Merge PDF files with novaPDF
