Prep Work:


1. Check device compatibility. Don't get excited just yet! The first thing you need to do is to ensure whether your iOS device is able to run on iOS 8 or not. Step 2. On iTunes, click your iOS device. In the pop window, you can see information for your iOS device. And there is a line telling you that version iOS 8.0.0 is available for your iOS device. Just click 'Update', then you'll upgrade your device to iOS 8.

  • Advantages: It's very easy to operate. No need to download any firmware or do any extra work.

  • Disadvantages: You have to wait for a long time for iTunes to download the installation package. During the install process, you might lose your data

Option 2: hold down Shift Key and click 'Update' on iTunes


Step 1. Download firmware for your iOS device according to your iOS device model. Save it on your computer.

Step 2. Download and install the latest iTunes on your computer. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with your computer and run iTunes.

Step 1. Download iOS 8 firmware for your iOS device according to your iOS device model. Save it on your computer.

Step 2. Make sure your iTunes is the latest version. If not, update it. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with your computer and launch iTunes. On iTunes, click your iOS device. In the pop window, you can see information for your iOS device. In the Backup area, choose 'This Computer' and click 'Back Up Now'. By doing this, you've successfully backup your iOS data to your computer. To ensure the success of upgrading to iOS 8 on your iOS device, please make sure you can meet the requirements:

  • Have 6GB storage available on your iOS device. Doing the iOS 8 update directly on your device requires large space. If you don't have so much storage, you should either try to upgrade to iOS 8 via iTunes or try the methods to free up space.

  • Have a stable network. If your WiFi is not stable, then it's very likely you'll fail to do the iOS 8 update;

  • Have full battery or connect device to power source. It takes a long time to do the update on an iOS device. If you don't have enough power, then you'll fail to do the update;

  • Make sure your iOS device is not jailbroken. Or fore sure, you can't upgrade your device to iOS 8;
