Installing the iOS 7 in your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
iOs7 installation

The Apple iOS 7 is a new upgrade that is available for free for recent iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices. Apple has this competitive advantage that other smartphone manufacturers don’t – they build their own hardware and software as well. Take the other two popular OS manufacturers – Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone – these companies do not manufacture mobile phones (hardware) as well. This advantage of Apple, enables them to tie their software and hardware deeply and integrate everything as one functional unit. Take for instance, the volume up and down buttons. While you are shooting a picture with the camera, you can use these buttons for focussing (zooming in and out) in this new version of iOS.

Installation is very simple and straight-forward. No complicated wizards or settings to deal with. Along with the interface, the apps are also updated automatically. Apple iOS 7 has a number of exciting new features that are re-designed from scratch. While the interface is new, existing users will be able to learn them quickly. Be prepared to wait for a while for the upgrade to complete, because it depends on your internet connect speed as well as the number of users trying to upgrade.

Installing the update requires a Wi-Fi connection to begin with. The device should show a notification already for updating to iOS 7. If it does not, you can do it manually by going to Settings – General – Software Update.

Alternatively, the device can also be hooked up to a computer (with internet)and update through the iTunes software. iTunes will automatically prompt with a window, and you can click the “Download and Update” button. If you don’t see a prompt window, then click the device – Summary – Check for Update – Download and Update.

The iOS 7 is available for the iPhone 4 and later models, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and 5th gen iPod Touch. The release has a golden master build number 11A470a.

The newly released iPhone devices – 5C and 5S are pre-installed with iOS 7, and optionally the Beta OS, iOS 7.0.1 will also be available for testing and fixing bugs (build number 11A466).

If you have not upgraded your device already (considering it is compatible) you might want to consider backing up your data. Usually this is not necessary, since iCould (and iTunes) backs up everything you need, unless you have disabled it. The OS update does not erase your contacts, mail or other things. However you might have to reconfigure some apps by logging in your credentials again.

You will see a progress bar during the update. Once completed, you will see a welcome screen, a prompt to enable location (can be disabled later in privacy settings), and a page that lets you restore from iCloud backup or iTunes backup. If you are the experimental kind, you can also choose to set the device as a new one!

Enter the Apple account’s credentials and you’re set! This has been the most significant upgrade since the launch of iPhone. Enjoy your brand new iOS!
